ZAGREB, Nov 25 (Hina) - Social Democrat (SDP) leader Ivica Racan said on Thursday afternoon that for the time being he could not say whether his party would join a motion by another leading opposition party -- the People's Party (HNS) -- to establish a commission to probe the business dealings of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul from 1992 to date.

Racan told reporters in the parliament that earlier in the day he had talked with representatives of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) and the HNS on the proposal, but added that for the time being he could not say whether the SDP would join the initiative as this was something which the SDP leadership should decide.

According to Racan, the decision can be expected in the coming days.

The HNS spokesperson reported this morning that presidents Vesna Pusic of the HNS, Ivica Racan of the SDP and Zlatko Tomcic of the HSS had agreed to insist on the establishment of a commission which would investigate business transactions of the current PM Sanader and Foreign Minister Zuzul since 1992 and to forward the proposal into the parliamentary procedure next Monday (30 November).

On Wednesday the parliament added an item to its agenda on establishing a commission of enquiry to investigate contracts which the state concluded with companies which were believed to be connected with Radimir Cacic and Zlatko Tomcic while they were senior officials in the former coalition government.

"This war which is being waged with commissions of enquiry is pointless and discredits democratic Croatia and the very institute of the commission of enquiry," Racan said.

He reiterated that he advocated the appointment in the very future of a new Conflict of Interest Commission which would tackle all such cases.
