ZAGREB, Nov 18 (Hina) - The B.a.b.e. group for women's rights on Thursday voiced dissatisfaction with developments in the case of reporter Helena Puljiz, who recently became a subject of debate of several institutions in charge of supervising the work of the Counter-intelligence Service (POA).

Although nobody has established any reasonable, let alone justified reason for POA agents to bring Puljiz in for questioning, the procedure to establish facts in this case is focused on questioning the credibility of the victim's statement, instead of on the unlawfulness of the entire procedure, the group said in a statement.

"When the chairman of the Council for the Civilian Control of Security Services states for the public television that the Council established founded suspicion, but that it did not prove it beyond doubt, we should all start worrying about our own safety," said the statement.

Why must Puljiz prove anything, if the basic question is why she was brought in for questioning in the first place and how can a state institution be allowed to use information from a citizen's private life to blackmail and recruit that citizen, B.a.b.e said.

The group called on citizens to strongly oppose such activities and to call to account all competent officials, as well as to demand from the media and all political factors to assume full responsibility during the public debate to protect the privacy and dignity of the victim.

If the case is not resolved soon and in a satisfactory manner, the group will take serious legal steps and internationalise the case, the statement said.
