This news followed a request McNair made of the Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina yesterday for postponing the trial of former Interpol deputy director for Bosnia, Asim Fazlic, who is suspected of having supplied criminals with information about police investigations.
McNair, who is in charge of high-profile cases, has said there exist serious fears for the security of some prosecutors, including Schmidt, who is visiting his family in the United States.
After the Interior Ministry of Bosnia's Croat-Muslim entity learned of the threats, the U.S. government reportedly recommended to Schmidt not to return to Bosnia until the threats were thoroughly investigated.
In the meantime, McNair's personal security has been stepped up. The Croat-Muslim interior ministry has entrusted the threats investigation to the Counterterrorist Squad.
