ZAGREB, Oct 30(Hina) - World Bank teams and Croatian representatives are preparing several new programmes, including one intended to help Croatian agriculture become more competitive on the EU market, the World Bank's Zagreb office said earlier this week.

A World Bank team for agriculture and Croatia's Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ministry have begun talks on the programme aimed at helping Croatia swiftly adjust its agriculture sector to European Union demands. The World Bank also supports the Government's efforts to economically and socially revive formerly war-struck areas.

Activities envisaged by said programme would facilitate Croatia's transition towards the common EU agriculture market. The programme would support the strengthening of the institutional capacity of Government bodies in charge of the development of the agricultural registry, the administration of rural development programmes, and the enforcement of regulations on the safety of foodstuffs and the agricultural policy.

The project would also help Croatia build appropriate administrative structures in the process of adjusting to EU legal standards pertaining to agriculture and to administrative mechanisms for the use of EU pre-accession funds.

The World Bank's Zagreb office said all preparations would soon be coordinated with the Croatian Government, the EU and other development partners in order to ensure an effective support to the Croatian Government for building a sound and sustainable agriculture.

The World Bank will support a project the Croatian Government is to draw up to help areas previously affected by the war deal with post-war reconstruction, reduce poverty, and ensure a sustainable economic and social revival.
