DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE OF IBRAHIM RUGOVA LEADS IN KOSOVO PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

PRISTINA, Oct 24 (Hina) - The Democratic Alliance of Kosovo led byIbrahim Rugova won 47 of votes in Saturday's parliamentary electionsin the UN-administered province of southern Serbia, according toinitial estimates announced by the Kosovo Committee on the Protectionof Human Rights and Freedoms.
PRISTINA, Oct 24 (Hina) - The Democratic Alliance of Kosovo led by Ibrahim Rugova won 47 of votes in Saturday's parliamentary elections in the UN-administered province of southern Serbia, according to initial estimates announced by the Kosovo Committee on the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms.

The Democratic Party of Hashim Thaqi emerged as the second strongest, capturing 27 per cent of the vote, and was followed by the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo led by Ramuss Haradinaj, which garnered eight per cent.

The civil initiative Ora, headed by Veton Surroi, won six per cent, the Albanian Christian Democratic Party of Kosovo, led by Mark Krasniqi, won 1.8 per cent, while the remaining contestants won 10 percent altogether.

Human Rights Committee spokesman Ibrahim Makoli said at a press conference after midnight that the ballots from 17 per cent of the polling stations had been counted.

Makoli said that turnout was about 53 per cent.
