PROTEST STAGED AGAINST MILITARY EXERCISE IN NATURE AREA

PREMANTURA, Oct 19 (Hina) - Around 50 people gathered for a rally inPremantura near the northern Adriatic city of Pula to protest againsta military exercise taking place on Cape Kamenjak, a protected naturearea. The rally was organised by the environmental association "ZelenaIstra".
PREMANTURA, Oct 19 (Hina) - Around 50 people gathered for a rally in Premantura near the northern Adriatic city of Pula to protest against a military exercise taking place on Cape Kamenjak, a protected nature area. The rally was organised by the environmental association "Zelena Istra".

The protesters said that military manoeuvres on Kamenjak were in violation of the Nature Protection Law which banned military exercises in protected areas.

The military exercise "Shield 2004" is the final part of a project to train air defence forces and it includes the shooting of targets above the sea. It has been held at Kamenjak for the tenth consecutive year.
