The HDZ said in a statement on Sunday that party's Main Board had unanimously supported the decision by the Presidency to nominate HDZ Vice-President Jadranka Kosor as a candidate for the President of the Republic.
The Main Board met on Sunday to discuss the current political situation in the country and expressed its full support for the government and the parliamentary majority in pursuing state policy, the statement said.
The HDZ also stated that its National Council "rejects malicious and untrue accusations by the clubs of deputies of the SDP, HSS and HSP, expressed in an open letter to a member of the HDZ Presidency, Parliament President Vladimir Seks."
"It is totally untrue that the voting on members of the parliamentary Commission on Conflict of Interest was not carried out in accordance with the Rules of Procedure. SDP, HSS and HSP deputies have an obligation to vote rather than obstruct decision-making by 'running away' from a session at the time of a vote.
"The HDZ National Council rejects the accusations from the open letter of the three parliamentary clubs, which claim that the changes to the Commission on Conflict of Interest and the method of appointment of its members were motivated by a desire to cover up cases of conflict of interest and corruption. On the contrary, the HDZ supports full transparency, monitoring deputies' activities in which conflicts of interest are possible, and resolute prevention of corruption," the statement said.
The three opposition parties said in their letter that the Parliament speaker had grossly violated the Rules of Procedure because the vote was conducted by a show of hand although none of the clubs of deputies had so requested, whereby he enabled "falsification of the outcome of the vote".
"The voting was entirely legal and in accordance with the Rules of Procedure," HDZ spokesman Ratko Macek said on Sunday evening.
