ZAGREB, Oct 15 (Hina) - A two-day conference on the reconciliation in the former Yugoslavia, which began in Belgrade on Friday evening, has pooled representatives of nongovernmental organisations, scientists, diplomats and some other individuals engaged in various activities aimed at the establishment of the truth and reconciliation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia-Montenegro, Kosovo, Croatia as well as in South Africa and Northern Ireland.

"Patriotism and state reasons cannot be an excuse for covering up crimes such as the one perpetrated in Srebrenica during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina," Serbian President Boris Tadic said at the beginning of the conference, organised by the national Victimology Society and the German Friedrich Ebert foundation.

Croatian Ambassador to Belgrade, Tonci Stanicic said that the essence of reconciliation is for all peoples, involved in the wars, to establish the truth, for their own sake, about what happened rather than trying to prove it to others.
