He was asked to comment on tensions between Croatia and Slovenia following a border incident which occurred last week.
Solana voiced confidence the two neighbouring countries would resume talks after Slovenia's elections this weekend. He said there was plenty of time to find a solution and that he was confident the two sides were capable of finding the solution.
Solana added that if that failed, Croatia and Slovenia must normally continue cooperating and find a third party to help them solve their problems.
Solana said he did not think Slovenia would deny support for Croatia's European Union entry or that this was the position of the Slovene government.
