Baranovic said that nothing new would happen after October 3 "except that the agony of the Croatian fishermen, who have been reduced to poverty, will be prolonged".
The union leader said that the decision would only benefit European Union countries, particularly Italy and Slovenia, in the unobstructed exploitation of the Adriatic Sea, because those counties were under no obligation to stop exploiting the fishing stock in the Croatian part of the Adriatic.
Baranovic said that the government should completely change its attitude towards the fishermen. He noted that it was not the fishermen's intention to deal with politics or destabilise the government, adding that the latest incident in the Bay of Savudrija proved that Croatian diplomacy was not up to its task because "its tepid attitude only benefits Slovene fishermen, who thus want to let us know that they can live well at our expense."
