ZAGREB, Sept 18 (Hina) - The Slovene Electoral Commission on Saturday published lists of candidates that would run in the parliamentary elections, scheduled for 3 October.

Political parties and nonparty associations proposed a total of 1,131 candidates for the 90-seat national assembly. Women account for one quarter of all candidates, who will be elected in a total of eight constituencies.

According to an opinion poll, the results of which were published by the local press on Saturday, centre-left parties get the edge over others.

According to a projection of a possible distribution of the seats which the Dnevnik daily made, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDS) of the incumbent Prime Minister Anton Rop is likely to win 33 seats. Its partner in the current ruling coalition, the United List of Social Democrats (ZLSD) , can win eight seats. The strongest opposition party, the Slovene Democratic Party (SDS) by Janez Jansa, is likely to have 23 seats.
