A special conference on planning a new EU-led force and establishing a special NATO headquarters for Bosnia-Herzegovina has just ended in the Bosnian Adriatic coastal town of Neum. The meeting was attended by British general David Leakey, who had been appointed commander of the EUFOR mission in the country.
Major General Leakey will command about 7,500 troops from EU member countries, while at the same time a special NATO headquarters will be established in Sarajevo, with a US general at its head.
The task of the EUFOR mission will be to ensure general security in Bosnia-Herzegovina, while the NATO command will help the country's authorities in implementing defence reform.
Hope said that NATO and EU leaders were yet to approve a proposal for the final structure and organisation of the two new missions that are to succeed SFOR.
