hearing because one of the defenceattorneys reported that he no longer represented his client, courtspokeswoman Marica Scepanovic said on Tuesday.
SPLIT, Sept 7 (Hina) - The Split County Court, which was to address
Wednesday a request by the Chief State Prosecutor's Office to remand in custody
eight men indicted for war crimes in Split's naval port of Lora in 1992, may
postpone the hearing because one of the defence attorneys reported that he no
longer represented his client, court spokeswoman Marica Scepanovic said on
Tuesday.However, it is not clear whether legal representation was cancelled by
the attorney or his client, so the court will establish the state of affairs
and appoint an attorney to defend the accused if necessary, and postpone the
hearing.
Although it was speculated that the decision on the Chief State
Prosecutor's Office's proposal would be made by the War Crimes Council, it was
decided that the Split County Court should make that decision.
The Croatian Supreme Court on August 19 announced its decision to quash
the Split County Court's ruling of October 2002 acquitting the eight former
military police officers, and ordered a re-trial with a new panel of judges.
