ZAGREB, Sept 7 (Hina) - Serb Independent Democratic Party (SDSS) vice-president Milorad Pupovac said on Tuesday that the pace of reconstruction of war-damaged property was satisfactory and that there were realistic prospects for the completion of reconstruction of 4,000 houses by the end of the year.

Speaking at a press conference in Zagreb, Pupovac said that 3,108 houses were being rebuilt, and that there were about 3,500 outstanding requests for housing reconstruction.

Pupovac called on all those entitled to housing reconstruction to file requests before the end of this month so that they could be included in next year's reconstruction programme.

He said that 6,281 requests for reconstruction had been filed by July 30 and that 2,500 such requests had been put in over the last two months alone. Along with requests left over from the previous year, more than 10,000 houses are to be rebuilt next year, he estimated.

Pupovac said that 5,566 requests entitled to the reconstruction of property falling in I-III damage categories had been registered, adding that nearly 13 million kuna had been paid out for this purpose in the first four months of this year and that about 46.5 million kuna was yet to be paid to beneficiaries.

The present state of reconstruction shows that most of the buildings are being reconstructed; 1,300 houses are being rebuilt in Dalmatia, 1,100 in Western Slavonia, 550 in Sisak-Moslavina County and about 450 in Lika, Pupovac said.
