"Shaken by the tragic events in North Ossetia, let me condemn most strongly the terrorist act in your country and offer you and the families of the victims my deepest sympathies," the message said.
"I believe that only a wide international operation can lead to the eradication of the causes and circumstances generating global terrorism. Croatia's support and interest in that regard have always been unambiguous - stronger and accepted involvement of the United Nations," President Mesic said.
"In that regard I believe that only talks can result in solutions which will eliminate potential terrorist activities," the president said.
The Beslan hostage crisis was ended on Friday with an operation of Russian forces. The alleged Chechen terrorists held in a local school more than 1,000 hostages, mostly children. The exact number of victims of the crisis is still not known, but the latest reports speak about 335 dead, including 156 children, and more than 700 wounded.
