OSIJEK, Sept 1 (Hina) - Zeljka Antunovic, vice-president of the
Social Democratic Party, said in Osijek on Wednesday that claims by the
Croatian Democratic Union that the entire portfolio of the Privatisation Fund
would be privatised by the middle of next year led to the assumption that
privatisation would be irresponsible and non-transparent and that it would not
yield positive results.Speaking at a news conference, she said that her party had been wrongly
accused while in power of "selling Croatia", and added that only some 30
companies had been privatised at the time.
Antunovic believes that the privatisation of the "Belje" agricultural
plant from eastern Slavonia proved that the HDZ intended to re-introduce the
"tycoon model" of privatisation.
Commenting on the latest announcements about an increase in pension
allowances, Antunovic said increasing pensions was part of the legal obligation
to harmonise pensions with the nominal growth of salaries and that the HDZ's
economic platform envisaged "stopping the growth of salaries and pensions".
