Sanader was explaining why the government decided yesterday that monuments honouring prominent Ustasha officials Mile Budak in Sveti Rok and Jure Francetic in Slunj must be removed.
He added the government was oriented to the future and that "in this sense, the two ministries in charge of the matter carried out the conclusions adopted at yesterday's government session".
The government last night adopted a decision on the removal of said monuments in accordance with Article 107 of the Croatian Constitution.
The decision was made because erecting said monuments was contrary to the Constitution and damaged Croatia's reputation and interests, which the government has the duty to protect, the government said in a press release.
The monuments were removed this morning, after the interior and zoning ministries were entrusted with carrying out the government decision.
