ZAGREB, Aug 27 (Hina) - Monuments honouring prominent Ustasha officials, Mile Budak in Sveti Rok and Jure Francetic in Slunj, have been removed, the Croatian government said in a press release on Friday.

The government held an extraordinary session on Thursday evening at which it decided to remove said monuments in accordance with Article 107 of the Croatian Constitution.

The decision was made because erecting said monuments was contrary to the Constitution and damaged Croatia's reputation and interests, which the government has the duty to protect, read the press release.

The government entrusted the interior and environmental protection and zoning ministries with carrying out its decision. The justice and culture ministries were entrusted with drafting a law on monuments and submitting it to the government.

The interior ministry was also entrusted with drafting and submitting within eight days draft amendments to the Criminal Code which will ban the promotion and glorification of totalitarian ideologies, including fascism and communism.
