Kosor says immediate elections will mean prolongaiton of EU entry talks

ZAGREB, April 6 (Hina) - To call immediately parliamentary elections will mean that Croatia will not succeed in bringing its European Union accession negotiations to completion now, Jadranka Kosor said during Question Time in the Sabor on Wednesday while responding to the insistence by opposition parties' deputies that the elections should be called without a delay.

In the event of organising the elections now, a provisional government cannot make any decisions pertaining to the negotiating area No. 23, Kosor said criticising the opposition for not offering support to her cabinet for the accession negotiations with the EU.

Question Time was marked with the exchange of accusations between deputies of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and deputies of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) over recent scandals involving the former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, sale of flats, or privatisation cases involving the opposition Croatian People's Party (HNS) leader Radimir Cacic and the burning issues such as nonpayment of salaries, plans about electoral redistricitng etc.

Kosor said that the HDZ would never forget or forgive statements made by SDP MP Željko Jovanovic about the HDZ being a criminal enterprise.

"The HDZ will use all legal means to fight against people who hate, discredit or try to inflict evil on others," Kosor told the parliament.
