The purpose of such visits is to put ambassadors in direct contact
with representatives of local authorities and residents so that they
can learn of their problems and see the possibilities of investing in
Croatia's regions, the council's vice president, Lidija Cehulic,
said.
She added Brod-Posavina County and the city of Slavonski Brod had been
chosen because this region had suffered in the 1990s war and needed
help, but the government did not have enough money to invest and
encourage development.
Cehulic said foreign ambassadors could play a very important role in
the establishment of economic and other cooperation with other
countries or regions with similar problems.
Prefect Mato Doric recalled the damage caused by the war in the county
was estimated at about EUR850 million.
