CROATIA AND OMAN SIGN ACCORD ON RECIPROCAL ENCOURAGEMENT AND PROTECTION OF INVESTMENTS

ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - Croatian Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship Minister Branko Vukelic and the Economy Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Ahmad Makki, on Tuesday signed an agreement on the reciprocal encouragement and protection of investments.
ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - Croatian Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship Minister Branko Vukelic and the Economy Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Ahmad Makki, on Tuesday signed an agreement on the reciprocal encouragement and protection of investments.#L# The conclusion of this agreement is the first step towards the strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries and the increasing of bilateral trade, the two ministers said. Minister Makki said Oman appreciated Croatian know-how in the sector of the production of electrical appliances, the chemical industry and Croatia's experience in promoting tourism. He added that bilateral cooperation could also be enhanced in shipbuilding and fisheries. Makki said that the agreement would encourage Omani businessmen to look into possibilities of investments and joint ventures in Croatia. The Croatian minister said the agreement would strengthen bilateral relations, and announced that a bilateral agreement on double taxation avoidance would be prepared in the near future. Vukelic said today's talks also focused on Croatia's plan to open a business office in one of the Gulf countries in order to promote its economic diplomacy in the region. Trade between Croatia and Oman totalled a mere US323,300 in 2003, with Croatian exports accounting for as much as 99 percent of the amount. (Hina) ms
