The agency reported that the EC's conclusion with regard to political
criteria was that Croatia is a functioning democracy with stable
institutions which guarantee the rule of law and with no major
problems in respect for human rights.
The agency estimates that the accession talks could last three to five
years and that Croatia could join the EU in 2008 at the earliest.
