ZAGREB, April 28 (Hina) - Croatia can count on further support from the United States, US Secretary of State Colin Powell said at a meeting with Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul on Wednesday, adding that Croatia must continue meeting its commitments, primarily those concerning cooperation with the UN war crimes in The Hague.
ZAGREB, April 28 (Hina) - Croatia can count on further support from the United States, US Secretary of State Colin Powell said at a meeting with Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul on Wednesday, adding that Croatia must continue meeting its commitments, primarily those concerning cooperation with the UN war crimes in The Hague.#L# Zuzul and Powell talked for about 20 minutes on the margins of an anti-Semitism conference in Berlin. "Powell once again congratulated Croatia on the positive avis of the European Commission and underlined that Croatia must continue meeting its commitments, particularly those concerning cooperation with the Hague tribunal," Zuzul told reporters after the talks. Powell welcomed the progress Croatia had made and pledged firm support from the US for Croatia's admission to NATO, the Croatian minister said. Zuzul recalled that no debate on new members was scheduled at a forthcoming NATO summit in Istanbul. "What we expect is the language that will clearly recognise the progress Croatia is making and clear indications of the direction and speed at which Croatia will be admitted to NATO as a full member," Zuzul said. Zuzul and Powell also discussed the situation in Southeast Europe. Zuzul said that after Croatia received the positive opinion of the EC on its application for EU membership, "there is no more fear that someone would want to force us into some Balkan associations or a new Yugoslavia." "Croatia is expected to contribute to the stabilisation of the region through its example and active role," he added. With the talks with the US Secretary of State, Zuzul ended his day-long visit to Berlin. (Hina) vm
