ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday submitted to competent bodies a request to urgently investigate the publishing of documents bearing the mark 'state secret' by this week's issue of a weekly, the government's public relations office said in a statement.#L# The government demands an urgent investigation into and punishment of responsible persons who took part in disclosing a state secret because such practice can seriously harm Croatia's state interests and people standing trial before the UN war crimes tribunal in the Hague, the statement said. The latest issue of the weekly in question included a report headlined "How The Hague Blackmailed Croatia" disclosing what it claimed was "a secret diplomatic note revealing the motive behind Carla del Ponte's pressure against Croatia". It is further claimed that the chief prosecutor of the Hague tribunal "used the case of the runaway general Ante Gotovina, among others, to wage a battle against the tribunal's 'exit strategy' under which the tribunal should complete its work by 2010".
