WASHINGTON, April 28 (Hina) - Croatia's Ambassador to the United States Ivan Grdesic on Tuesday visited Minnesota where he held talks with state officials and representatives of the National Guard and the local Croat community.#L# Grdesic met Governor Tim Pawlenty, with whom he discussed the situation in Croatia's neighbourhood, especially in Kosovo, as many members of Minnesota's National Guard are deployed in that province as part of international peace-keeping forces. The National Guard is a partner to the Croatian Army and has helped it prepare for membership of NATO's Partnership for Peace programme. General Larry Shellit was interested in Croatia's experience in peace operations, Ambassador Grdesic told Hina on the telephone from St. Paul. Shellit will visit Zagreb in late May to discuss concrete forms of cooperation with the Croatian Army. During the visit to Minnesota, which has exceptionally developed chemical and medical industries, Grdesic and his hosts also discussed cooperation between Croatia and 3M companies and Mayo clinic. Grdesic also met representatives of Croatian Americans. Some 20,000 Croatian Americans live in Minnesota. (Hina) rml
