RIJEKA, April 23 (Hina) - The Croatian government has decided to set up the radar system "Sky" on Mt. Ucka's Vojak peak, Croatian Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic told reporters after meeting representatives of the Armed Forces' 5th Corps Command in Rijeka on Friday.#L# The radar system is needed by the flight control and the army and 80% of its capacity will be used for civilian air traffic control, the minister said adding that the system was not harmful to human health. Roncevic also said that the defence ministry would honour its agreement with the City of Rijeka on the army leaving the barracks at the city's Trsat neighbourhood, which is to be redesigned into a university campus. He added that the reorganisation of unused military facilities was part of efforts to streamline the ministry and reduce the number of military personnel to 18,000 and the number of generals from 27 to 18 in line with NATO standards. He dismissed reports on the disbanding of the Air Force, stating that the Air Force was being reduced to the optimum of 12 combat jets. The Navy is not disbanded either, but will be integrated into the Coast Guard, Roncevic said. He assessed that the modernisation of the army would be completed by 2015. (Hina) rml
