ZAGREB, April 8 (Hina) - The Croatian Foreign Ministry refuted on Thursday that the European Commission had requested postponing the application of a law on the protected ecological and fishing zone in the Adriatic Sea.

Thursday that the European Commission had requested postponing the
application of a law on the protected ecological and fishing zone in
the Adriatic Sea.#L#
"Croatia is in constant diplomatic contact with the European
Commission, especially in these important days when we are expecting
the Commission's opinion (on Croatia's European Union membership), and
the protected ecological and fishing zone is one of the topics. But it
can't be concluded from our diplomatic contacts that there is a
request to postpone the application (of the law)," a source at the
ministry spokesman's office told Hina.
Slobodna Dalmacija daily said in today's issue the Commission had
requested the Croatian Foreign Ministry to postpone the application of
the law which under parliament's decision should go into force in
October. The daily added the request was made by the Commission's
External Relations Director General, Eneko Landaburu, to Croatia's
Ambassador to the EU, Mirjana Mladineo.
