ZAGREB, April 6 (Hina) - The Socialist Workers' Party (SRP) changed its name to the Socialist Party (SP) and elected Ivan Pljesa president of the party at a convention on Tuesday.#L# Pljesa, who had up until now filled the post of party vice-president, replaced Stipe Suvar, who had led the party since its foundation six years ago. Suvar decided not to run for another term, citing "fatigue", but would remain in the party as chairman of the Council and head of the August Cesarec Foundation that would promote publishing. Pljesa said that the SP was the only party in Croatia to openly support socialism and that it wanted to become "the main party of the true Left". The newly-elected president said that his party supported various forms of ownership, including social ownership, and called for the annulment of the Privatisation Act and a review of the privatisation process. The meeting was addressed by Ivo Banac of the Liberal Party, the only other party to send its delegate. (Hina) vm
