"The Croatian government intends to make up for the long-standing
social marginalisation and neglect of the Roma in cooperation with
Roma communities," said Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, who
chaired the session.
The president of the Roma Alliance, Bozo Nikolic, said the Roma did
not ask for the National Programme to be realised overnight, but
voiced hope that at least some of the problems the Roma faced would be
resolved. In this respect he mentioned the upgrading of school
education, the solving of preschool education in Roma settlements as
well as of the housing issue by legalising settlements whenever
possible.
The constituent session was held ahead of April 8, World Roma Day.
Kosor took the opportunity to wish all Roma the best.
