ZAGREB, April 5 (Hina) - Croatian Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic left for Afghanistan on Monday to visit the Croatian military police unit operating within the NATO-led international peacekeeping mission there.#L# During his visit, Roncevic is due to meet the commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), General Rick Hillar, senior NATO envoy Hikmet Cetin and Afghan Defence Minister Qaser Fahim Khan. This is the first visit of a Croatian defence minister to the Croatian forces in Afghanistan, which joined the peacekeeping mission in February last year. The ISAF is the only international peacekeeping mission in the world to include a Croatian military unit. A 50-strong Croatian military police platoon, including three women, is based in the capital Kabul for a six-month mission. Attached to the German military contingent, it performs usual military-police tasks and assists the Afghan government in restoring authority following a civil war and the intervention of US-led anti-terrorist coalition forces that deposed the Taliban regime at the end of 2001.
