BANJA LUKA, March 11 (Hina) - Bosnian Foreign Minister Mladen Ivanic
has approved issuing of around 500 diplomatic passports in the last 15
months while in office, the Nezavisne Novine daily reported on
Thursday.#L#
The Banja Luka-based newspaper said that diplomatic passports had been
issued to Republika Srpska premier Dragan Mikerevic and his wife and
two sons, the wives of members of the parliaments of
Bosnia-Herzegovina and its two entities, Republika Srpska and the
Muslim-Croat federation, members of the country's presidency and many
ministers, and sons of ministerial advisers.
Although the leaders of religious communities in Bosnia-Herzegovina
can apply for diplomatic passports to be issued to up to four senior
officials, the only one to have been issued a diplomatic passport is
the leader of the Islamic community, Mustafa Ceric.
The rules of the Foreign Ministry give the minister broad powers,
allowing him to issue a diplomatic passport to anyone he deems to be
"of interest to Bosnia-Herzegovina".
