HARTMANN: INDICTMENTS AGAINST CERMAK, MARKAC, GOTOVINA UNSEALED

ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - The spokeswoman for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Office of the Prosecutor, Florence Hartmann, has said that the tribunal unsealed indictments against Croatian generals Mladen Markac and Ivan Cermak and an amended indictment against General Ante Gotovina on Monday morning.
ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - The spokeswoman for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Office of the Prosecutor, Florence Hartmann, has said that the tribunal unsealed indictments against Croatian generals Mladen Markac and Ivan Cermak and an amended indictment against General Ante Gotovina on Monday morning.#L# Hartmann said in a phone interview with Hina today that Markac and Cermak were charged with crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war at the time of Operation "Storm". The tribunal will soon publicise the content of the indictments, she said. Hartmann commended the conduct of the Croatian government in the case, stressing that both the government and the Office of the Prosecutor were obliged to respect the tribunal's decision about keeping the indictments, including the identity of the accused, confidential until their publication. Hartmann said the prosecution expected Cermak and Markac to arrive in The Hague soon and the government to take all necessary steps in the case of the fugitive general Ante Gotovina. (Hina) rml
