PULA, March 1 (Hina) - Istria County prefect Ivan Jakovcic voiced
concern at a news conference in Pula on Monday that partners from
Israel, who had been ready to invest into a project of conversion of
passenger planes into cargo planes at Pula airport, were losing
interest in the project.#L#
This was due to "the fierce opposition of the Pula city authorities
and negative media reports", and the investors eventually received a
very attractive offer from the Yugoslav air carrier JAT from
Belgrade.
"Judging by all accounts, the project will be implemented in Belgrade
rather than Pula", Jakovcic said.
The county prefect has nevertheless asked the Israeli partners to give
the local authorities several months to reach agreement on the
implementation of the project, as "Istria is very interested in
aviation, after successful projects in automobile and shipbuilding
industries".
Commenting on cooperation with the government, Jakovcic said that it
was improving.
"So far, the government has not rejected any project from Istria,
concrete action is taken and what we have agreed so far has been
implemented," Jakovcic said, adding that he was really encouraged by
the government's first moves.
