PRISTINA, Feb 29 (Hina) - The UN civil administrator of Kosovo, Harri Holkeri, confirmed in a statement to Kosovo television on Sunday afternoon that Hungarian authorities had released the Kosovo Protection Corps Commander, General Agim Qeku.#L# Qeku was detained at Budapest airport on Sunday morning on an Interpol arrest warrant issued by Serbian authorities. The UN mission in Kosovo said that Qeku had been released after numerous diplomatic efforts. There were contradictory reports going around today concerning his arrest and release. Qeku's release was also confirmed by Albania's Ambassador to Budapest, Eduard Sula, who said that Qeku would be back in Pristina on Monday afternoon. Slovene authorities detained Qeku last October, and Hungarian authorities arrested Kosovo Democratic Party leader Hashim Thaqi at Budapest airport last June. Serbian media reported that an international warrant for Qeku's arrest was issued in July 2002 following an order by the District Court in the southern Serbian city of Nis. Qeku, who has Croatian citizenship, is suspected by the Nis court of genocide against the Serbian population in Kosovo. (Hina) vm
