a new law on the prevention of conflict of interest in performing
public duties should be drafted.#L#
According to Ivo Josipovic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), such
a law, which should show the result of a consensus of the parties and
the public, should define the list of officials in more detail. It
should also respect the principle under which the owner of a concern
and the owner of a small farm could not be treated equally -- namely
the principle "the higher ranking official, the bigger restrictions".
The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) which, along with the government
and the club of deputies of the Croatian People Party, the
Primorje-Gorski Kotar Alliance, the Istrian Democratic Assembly and
the Libra Party, moved the amendments, withdrew its motion so that a
new, better law be drafted. "We will wait for the times when senior
state officials will finally have to answer to the public, instead of
having the conflict of interest commission become a parliamentary
inquisition body, Miroslav Rozic said and added that the HSP would not
take part in the debate.
