infrastructure projects for the development of Rijeka and its traffic

Mesic is in Rijeka attending the 21st annual International Rijeka
Carnival. Before the festivity, the President met with mayor Vojko
Obersnel, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County prefect Zlatko Komadina, and
European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, Mesic said that decisions adopted in
democratic procedure must be a commitment for the new authorities. The
change of government cannot be reason to change priorities, he added.
It is important to finish projects envisaging the modernisation of
railways, the construction of the highway to Rijeka, the Rijeka ring
road and port infrastructure, Mesic said, adding that Rijeka's economy
could not prosper without the development of its port, the largest in
Croatia.
