of all unemployed.
ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - At Thursday's session of the Economic and
Social Council (GSV) the social partners proposed a series of measures
aimed at improving the position of women on the labour market, given
that they make up 58 percent of all unemployed.#L#
The rate of unemployed women is higher in Croatia than in other
countries in transition, but the wages of working women in Croatia are
higher than in transition countries, it was said at the session.
The GSV task force moved a series of measures aimed at improving the
position of women, such as the introduction of entrepreneurship as a
subject in the education system, the improvement of pre-school
children care, the setting up of private kindergartens and
kindergartens in larger companies, and the setting up of a
government's office for gender equality.
A Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for the Family, Veterans'
Affairs and Inter-Generation Solidarity, Jadranka Kosor, said the
provision which binds mothers of children older than 7 to accept a job
within 80 kilometres of their place of residence would be excluded
from the law on mediation.
