ZAGREB, Feb 18 (Hina) - Amending the Penal Code as part of the judicial reform and implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union is a government and justice ministry priority, a team of experts
in charge of amending the Penal Code said at their first meeting on Wednesday.

The government considers the Penal Code amendments a pressing matter
and will send them to parliament by April, said Snjezana Bagic, state
secretary at the justice ministry.
She stressed it was necessary to adjust the Penal Code with
commitments from international conventions, notably with regard to
organised and computer crime, terrorism, all forms of corruption, and
war crimes prosecution, as well as with standards of the EU, the
Council of Europe, and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation
in Europe.
Criminal acts of smearing reputation and honour committed through the
media will be amended with a view to establishing complete freedom of
information, charges and punishment for drug abuse will be considered,
as will changes referring to economic crimes, it was said.
