ZAGREB, Feb 14 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic reiterated on Saturday he was confident that retired Croatian Army General Ante Gotovina, wanted by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, was not in Croatia.

"I declare that Ante Gotovina is not in Croatia since our intelligence
would have information about that, and there is no such information.
All trails which indicated that Ante Gotovina was either here or there
have been investigated and proved to be misinformation," Mesic told
reporters in Pozega.
The Hague tribunal's chief prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, said in
Brussels last week she had no new information about Gotovina but that
she still believed he was in Croatia.
"I have said on several occasions that not one Croat from Croatia is
in The Hague. Only three of our citizens were indicted. As regards
possible new indictments, we certainly don't know who will be
indicted, but all those called as either witnesses, accused or
suspects will appear before the Hague tribunal. That's why I think
it's exaggerated and not good for Croatia to be hostage to only one
man who has not answered the tribunal's summons," the President said.
He stressed that the rule of law in Croatia was continuously improving
and that the number of people realising that one must respond to court
summonses and that Croatian laws must be implemented was increasing.
Mesic and associates are visiting Pozega to celebrate Valentine's Day
with about 90 couples who have been married for 50 or more years.
