SUBOTICA, Feb 5 (Hina) - Croatia's Consul General in Subotica, Jasmina Kovacevic-Cavlovic has told the Croatian weekly 'Hrvatska Rijec" that not only she but also other Croatian diplomatic representatives in this northern Serbian town received a number of threatening phone calls recently, #L# A month ago, anonymous telephone calls to the phone number in my private house became frequent. Unidentified callers used vulgar and abusive language, Kovacevic-Cavlovic said adding that after seven or eight such telephone calls the police were informed of the incident and set up a caller I.D. service. After that there were also calls, she said. She said in an interview for Friday's issue of the local weekly that other Croatian diplomatic representatives in Subotica also received threats, including the message "Croats, be ready to die!". The Consul General said that such incidents should no longer be concealed and that the public should be informed of them, as not one perpetrator had so far been identified. Threatening calls to diplomats is only one of many recent incidents which have occurred since 28 December parliamentary elections in Serbia. Immediately after the elections won by the Serbian Radical Party, a few monuments which symbolised the ethnic and religious characteristics of ethnic Croat community were demolished. Only one perpetrator who smashed windows of the Franciscan Monastery at the beginning of this week, was caught by the police. The perpetrators was a minor from Belgrade. Perpetrators of the destruction of the monument to Matija Gubec and of desecration of crosses at a Catholic cemetery as well as anonymous callers who issued threats have not yet been found out by the local police.
