ZAGREB, Jan 30(Hina) - The Croatian Handball Association's (HRS) president, Zeljko Kavran, on Friday sent a letter to the European Handball Federation (EHP) protesting over the organising committee's decision to reduce the number of tickets for a semi-final match which is to be played by Croatia and Slovenia at the ongoing Men's European Championship.#L# The match is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in the Slovene capital of Ljubljana. The HRS also protests over the treatment of Croatian supporters in Slovenia, which is the host of the 6th Men's European Handball Championship. According to the letter, since the very start of this sporting event Croatian fans have been exposed to special treatment by the Slovene police. "We take exception to the regime of the border control of Croatians entering Slovenia, when supporters as well as other Croatian nationals were prevented from crossing into Slovenia if they did not possess tickets for handball matches," the Croatian association said. The letter mentions an incident which occurred in the town of Celje after Thursday's Croatia-Russia match when the tyres of 20 cars with Croatian licence plates were slashed. EHF officials are asked to exert their influence so as to help defuse the situation and ensure that Croatian supporters can feel safe and secure during their stay in Slovenia. (Hina) ms sb
