MOSTAR, Jan 28(Hina) - Senior Bosnian Muslim and Croat officials on
Wednesday criticised the decision by International High Representative
Paddy Ashdown on the administrative reorganisation of the southern
city of Mostar.#L#
Ashdown on Wednesday used his powers to impose a new statue for the
city, abolishing the existing six municipalities (three with a Muslim
majority and three with a Croat majority) and transforming them into
electoral units.
The Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Adnan Terzic, who was
nominated to this post by the Muslim-led Democratic Action Party
(SDA), expressed regret over the decision, saying that it was bad for
Bosnia's bid to enter European integration processes.
"If we are to wait for the High Representative to proclaim decisions,
our journey to Europe will finish before it has started," Terzic told
Bosnian television on Wednesday evening.
The Chairman of the country's Presidency, Dragan Covic, who was
nominated to this post by the Croatian Democratic Union of
Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ BH), criticised Ashdown for keeping the six
electoral units in Mostar.
Covic said he was discouraged by this solution because he expected the
city to be organised as a single administrative unit and, by
extension, as a single electoral unit.
