MOSTAR IS NOT MOSTAR, Jan 24(Hina) - The international community's High Representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Paddy Ashdown, has dismissed the possibility of Mostar and Sarajevo, the only two cities which he says are mentioned as
exceptions in the Dayton peace agreement, to be organised in the same way.
MOSTAR, Jan 24(Hina) - The international community's High
Representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Paddy Ashdown, has dismissed the
possibility of Mostar and Sarajevo, the only two cities which he says
are mentioned as exceptions in the Dayton peace agreement, to be
organised in the same way.#L#
The Dayton agreement defines Sarajevo as a divided city and that is a
done deal, Ashdown said at a panel discussion in Mostar on Friday
alluding to the division of the city into a Serb and a Croat-Muslim
part.
According to Ashdown, Sarajevo will remain divided until the Dayton
agreement is changed.
Mostar is defined as a city whose final set-up is yet to be decided,
he said, warning about the lack of trust between the city's Muslim and
Croat communities.
He added that in his capacity as the High Representative he had the
authority to solve the problem of Mostar's organisation.
He reiterated that he was not optimistic about political parties in
Mostar reaching agreement on the reorganisation of the city by the end
of January, the final deadline which he had set.
Stressing that failure to reorganise the city could jeopardise
Bosnia's admission to the EU, Ashdown said he would be forced to
impose a solution, but he would not say what he would decide.
