Seth presented the World Bank's views on Croatia's future economic
development. According to the Bank's official, major strategic
challenges which the new government in Croatia will meet are
maintaining macroeconomic stability, changing the model of national
economy with growth based on the encouragement of spending and
investments in public infrastructure to a model of viable growth based
on the export of goods and services and investments by the private
sector.
The Croatian head of state agreed with this stance, and said his
country needed a model of economic growth which would stimulate the
creation of more jobs.
At the end of the talks, Mesic and Seth welcomed cooperation between
the World Bank and the Croatian government, particularly for the
purpose of achieving faster economic growth and structural reforms.
