Sanader told reporters after the meeting he had asked the nuncio for
the assistance of the Holy See in Croatia's efforts to join the
European Union.
Sanader said Croatia was "absolutely interested in full and permanent
political stability" in its neighbourhood and wanted to work on it
simultaneously with its EU membership bid.
Croatia's path to the European Union and NATO and its assistance to
the international community in efforts to achieve lasting political
stability in its neighbourhood are two interrelated processes
influencing one another, the prime minister said.
Lozano expressed satisfaction with his first official meeting with the
new Croatian prime minister. He said they had discussed views of the
Holy See and Croatia on many issues, including the stability of
Croatia, its road to EU membership, the government's support to ethnic
minorities and efforts to stabilise the entire region.
The nuncio described relations between Croatia and the Holy See as
very good, expressing confidence that they would be increasingly
better in the future.
