ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - After the UN Convention Against Corruption enters into force, Croatia will have to ensure access to information on the work of all government institutions in order to build public confidence in those institutions, representatives of Transparency International Croatia said on Friday.

The state must also simplify procedures before state administration bodies, the president of Transparency International Croatia, Zorislav Antun Pterovic, told reporters today, adding that an independent body for the prevention of corruption would be set up.

The new body would assume some of the responsibilities of the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime and would be in charge of adopting regulations on the financing of political parties, Petrovic said.

The UN Convention Against Corruption entered into force on 14 December 2005.

The first global legal instrument against corruption contains a number of regulations defining standards for good government, anti-corruption measures and international cooperation.

Croatia is one of the 38 countries to ratify the convention.
