"The Social Democratic Party (SDP) will no longer be involved in the discussion because we don't want to be part of the campaign against Croatian Television. We want to distance ourselves from the debate in parliament and the satanization of Croatian Television," Milanka Opacic of the SDP said after a ten-minute recess requested by most of the clubs of deputies.
Ivan Mastruko of the Croatian People's Party (HNS) also expressed conviction that the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) wanted to replace HRT chief director Mirko Galic and the Programmes Council. Mastruko said that yesterday and today's parliamentary debates on the Croatian Radio Television business performance were inappropriate and intolerant. He said that the wish to replace Croatia Radio Television leaders was evident
If this wish turns into intention, the Croatian information sphere will suffer serious consequences, Mastruko said.
Ljubica Lalic of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) and Milorad Pupovac of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) agreed. Pupovac stressed that the debate brought into question minimum parliamentary standards.
HDZ deputies, however, firmly dismissed the claims that the party wanted to control Croatian Television.
