The rally was organised by the coordinating body of Homeland War associations. Participants in the rally were addressed by the president of the coordinating body, Ante Martinac, who called on war veterans, members of veterans' associations and citizens, the public and all institutions to do their utmost to "help the innocent general Ante Gotovina".
"This is not a political rally, we are now thinking only about how to help General Gotovina," Martinac said.
"Our General Ante Gotovina is in The Hague because of false documents and forged transcripts. We urge the Croatian government to make all documents available and help General Gotovina and his family
in every other way. We also ask that General Gotovina be tried in his country," Martinac said.
No incidents were reported during the rally, with participants holding Gotovina posters and Croatian flags. At the end of the rally, a Dalmatian harmony-singing group sang Gotovina's favourite song.
Retired brigadier Marko Rajcic then read out requests by commanders of the former Split Military District who were under Gotovina's command, urging the authorities to give every kind of assistance to Gotovina and his family.
The Osijek County Police Department said today that all rallies held yesterday in support of Gotovina were peaceful.
