Croatian national hero Ante Gotovina is a pawn in a hypocritical political game and it is sad if his freedom had to be sacrificed so that Croatia could join NATO or the European Union, Peraica said in a comment on the arrest of Gotovina, who is to be transferred to The Hague on Saturday.
The CAA will continue supporting Gotovina morally, legally and financially, the Voice of America quoted Peraica as saying.
Peraica, a lawyer holding the post of a commissioner in the Chicago city administration, said the Hague tribunal was an unjust tribunal disregarding regulations on legal procedure.
The CAA is a lobbying organisation of Croatian Americans which, it claims, promotes Croatia's interests in Congress, the White House and the State Department.
