BELGRADE, Nov 24 (Hina) - In their coverage of Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's visit to Zagreb on Wednesday, Belgrade media have highlighted the conclusion that Croatia and Serbia must play a key role in stabilising the region.

Media reports on Thursday underlined that overall relations between the two countries were improving and that the focus was now being shifted to the promotion of economic cooperation.

All the media quoted Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader as saying that "the Croatian government believes in principle that the problem of Kosovo cannot be solved without Belgrade," which Belgrade newspapers viewed as support.

Sanader was also quoted as saying that Croatia was glad about Serbia making progress towards European Union membership.

The Vecernji List newspaper carried a statement by Serb National Council chairman Milorad Pupovac that Kostunica's visit to Zagreb, the first working visit of a Serbian head of government since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1996, was historic.

"Only by strengthening the cooperation between the two countries at the highest level can the Serb minority in Croatia improve its status. We must develop our relations by viewing Serbia as our parent country and Croatia as our homeland," Pupovac was quoted as saying at a meeting with Kostunica.

The financial daily Pregled said that the signing of five cooperation agreements would contribute to the further development of economic ties.
